You might remember we shared the story of inspirational sailor Ivor Burgess, travelling north on Still Dangerous, his Oceanis 45, a few months back. Well Ivor’s story has been such a hit with our Flagstaff community, we thought we’d give you an update on his trip so far.
You’ll be pleased to know Still Dangerous is safe and sound at Airlie Beach but Ivor and his crew had quite the adventure getting up there this time around. Here’s what Ivor shared with us…
“The trip this year was a little more eventful due to the inclement weather we have had in May and June – it was more windy and more choppy on the water. We had to take a five-day break in Port Stephens to go golfing and wine tasting in the Hunter Valley, due to the bad weather.”
“Then we had an engine malfunction between Surfers and Mooloolaba and had to ask Coastal Patrol Mooloolaba to assist us into the harbour at 10.30 pm on Sunday night. They were not impressed but were very good with their assistance.”
“We had a rough day from Middle Percy to Mackay with 30 knots plus and wind and waves on the side of the boat. Then a great run Mackay to Airlie Beach, sunny day, wind behind us – it was just like being on a magic carpet, cruising through the Whitsundays.”
So there you have it – how to deal with bad weather Still Dangerous style!
