Audi Hamilton Island Race Week

Thanks everyone who came along to Audi Hamilton Island Race Week! We had an absolute ball catching up with new and old friends alike. Beneteau had the largest representation with 32 yachts racing across the divisions. The Flagstaff crew were there in force with Mike Coxon, Shane Crookshanks, Graham Raspass and Micah Lane all spending time out on the water with Beneteau owners.

Each morning, over 120 skippers and navigators attended ‘Shoot the Breeze’ sponsored by the Flagstaff Beneteau. Seasoned Sydney to Hobart skipper Michael Spies, along with several racing experts, came together to discuss daily race strategies, covering everything from the weather, tide, and wind to the racecourse, helping crews bring together their individual racing strategies.

We were lucky to have prime conditions. With 15 divisions, Audi Hamilton Island Race Week attracts everyone from the racing elite to trailer sailors. The competition started well with winds sitting around 30 knots. On Thursday the winds dropped and competitions were called off for the day. By Friday the trade winds were back and race officials did a great job of making up for lost time.

It was a tough competition with only a few points in it for most categories. Andrew Molnar and his Oceanis 48 Hub took out the Non-Spinnaker Division 1 by two points. And David Stoopman, owner of the Victorian Beneteau Oceanis 40, came a close second in the Cruising Division 5.
