Beneteau are leaders in their field when it comes to the innovative Inboard Performance System (IPS) from Volvo.
They were the first European boatyard to introduce IPS ten years ago. Since then, in close collaboration with Volvo, the Beneteau design office has specifically developed six different hulls, especially for this engine system. These are the unique hulls of the Monte Carlo, Gran Turismo, and Swift Trawler ranges.
The IPS System was launched in 2004 by Volvo and is a fully integrated propeller system which runs from the helm station via the engine all the way to the propellers. It was originally designed as an alternative to standard shaft lines.
Inspired by liner propulsion systems, the technology uses a “pod” base and it’s all about the direction of the propellers. They face forward and pull instead of propel. Based on counter-rotating propeller pods in shafts, they are built into the hull and are positioned well behind the boat.
The joystick is positioned on the dashboard and you can turn the boat on the spot with one single movement. The boat can move sideways, a bit like a crab. The drive is parallel to the hull and all motor yachts fitted with IPS are easy to manoeuvre.
There are many benefits to an IPS system. It’s reliable, more fuel efficient, significantly increases acceleration speed, reduces noise level and gives a greater amount of space on board. It’s a safe and comfortable ride for all on board.
